The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support held a retirement ceremony to honor the federal service of three civilian employees on March 31.
Tara Perrien, Maria Silvester, and Francis Flynn were surrounded by family and friends as they celebrated during their special moment.
"Celebrating employees like Fran, Tara, and Maria, who gave selflessly to this organization and the Warfighters around the world is one of the best perks of my job," said DLA Troop Support Commander U.S. Army Brig. Gen Sean P Kelly, who presided over the ceremony. "Looking over your bios, I have such a sense of pride to work alongside you."
Flynn retires with 34 years of service. His latest role at Troop Support was operational planner in DLA Logistics Operations.
"You know it's time to retire when have enough and had enough. I have enough with my kids and grandkids," he said. "DLA is the best at what they do and how they do it, I will never forget that."
Flynn plans to spend retirement with his wife doing RV excursions, and trips to Wildwood Crest Beach.
Perrien completes 26 years of service. Prior to retirement she worked in the Medical supply chain in the roles of buyer, contracting officer and contracting officer's representative.
"I was honestly considering skipping the retirement ceremony," added Perrien. "Then I thought I am only going to get to do this once. Although I won't miss the commute and the bad roads, I will desperately miss the people I work with and grateful for them."
During retirement Perrien plans to swim, cook and focus on music genealogy and language study.
Silvester is retiring from her current position as a contracting officer in the Clothing and Textiles supply chain with eight years of service.
"When I arrived at C&T, I felt like I've arrived," said Silvester. "I love that my boss and team always made me feel like I had a home here and were important, for that I say thank you all."
She plans to spend more time mountain biking, working out, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
"The supply chains of the Department of War are not a place for spectators," said Kelly. "This is a full-contact sport. It is an arena. And our retirees have been in that arena every single day. On behalf of myself and the entire workforce, I wish you and your family all the best in your well-deserved and earned retirement. Congratulations!"
