Global Earth Day 2026 Call to Action in Mumbai

Advancing energy audits, mobilising artists and creators, and pledging to plant 5.6 million trees

MUMBAI, India - In the lead-up to Earth Day 2026, the Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA), in collaboration with Earth Day Network India, has issued a landmark declaration and call to action to green Maharashtra-positioning the state as a national model for large-scale environmental transformation.

The declaration outlines three immediate pathways for impact: advancing energy audits across government and private sectors to improve efficiency; mobilising artists and creators to amplify climate action; and a statewide pledge to plant 5.6 million trees-engaging citizens, institutions, and communities in collective environmental responsibility, aligned with global Earth Day priorities.

Aligned with this year's Earth Day theme, Our Power, Our Planet, Envision Energy and EARTHDAY.ORG will host a high-profile international awards ceremony honouring 20 Our Power, Our Planet Stars-leaders advancing clean energy, reducing fossil fuel dependence, and driving sustainable innovation. Supported by MITRA and the International Advertising Association (IAA), the event recognises outstanding individuals and institutions across Asia and Africa. Kathleen Rogers, President of EARTHDAY.ORG, notes, "The transition to clean energy is already underway-led by these committed changemakers."

The evening will also feature a high-level fireside conversation bringing together leaders from policy, industry, and the creative sectors to explore how cross-sector collaboration can accelerate climate action and deliver scalable, real-world impact.

This will be followed by the launch of Sustainable Fashion for a Better Tomorrow, an exclusive publication by Earth Day Network India showcasing initiatives from 24 countries across Asia that highlight innovative approaches transforming the fashion industry toward sustainability-demonstrating how responsible design, production, and consumption can redefine the sector, and reinforcing that style and sustainability can thrive together.

Adding a powerful cultural dimension, the evening will feature a headline performance by Sona Mohapatra-a celebrated voice in the music industry-whose artistry will set the tone for reflection, inspiration, and collective commitment to the planet. Her performance will seamlessly bridge cultural expression with environmental consciousness, setting a compelling prelude to the evening's dialogue and reinforcing the role of art in advancing climate action.
