Today's hearing marks another step on the long road toward justice for the victims of the June 1, 2025 Boulder Attack.
Our hearts are with those in our community who were directly impacted. Today, we are sending care and comfort to the family and friends of Karen Diamond, who died as a result of her injuries; to those still living with deep physical and emotional injuries; and to Boulder's Jewish community collectively. We are also thinking of and grateful for the first responders who stepped into help on June 1 during a terrifying, uncertain moment, providing exceptional, professional and compassionate service amid the horrendous human impacts happening on scene. We are also appreciative of numerous community members who stepped up during this moment of crisis, to bring water to those on scene and provide other comforts, help and support.
Out of respect for the legal process and the work of prosecutors, the city will not offer commentary or speculation about the defendant or the details of the plea agreement. Commentary risks complicating the prosecution's ability to make their case in a court of law, and with federal prosecution still pending, we will not take that risk. The justice these victims deserve depends on a process rooted in full integrity.
We know that this horrific antisemitic terror attack was an affront to the safety and security of Jewish people specifically in Boulder, and we denounce acts of antisemitism here and everywhere. The attacker wanted division. What Boulder has shown is the opposite. We come together. We uplift one another. We rebuild, as we have done after other terrible days. The Boulder community is strong and resilient. We will not let terror or violence define us; instead, we choose again to be defined by our commitment to community and justice.
