(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - State Representative Sharon Ray (R-Wadsworth) today announced that the Ohio Senate unanimously passed House Bill 56, legislation to designate a portion of State Route 421 as the Corporal David James Amheiser Memorial Highway.
Corporal Amheiser tragically lost his life at the age of 19 on August 29th, 1970, while serving his second tour in Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart, a Bronze Star for Valor, Combat Infantryman's Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
"I'd like to thank Corporal Amheiser's nephew, Greg Channel, for reaching out to my office and sharing the Corporal's story with me," said Ray. "I hope this memorial highway will keep Corporal Amheiser's legacy alive within our community, bring comfort to his family, and honor the sacrifice he made."
The highway will run adjacent to the Amheiser family farm in Medina County.
House Bill 56 now goes to the Governor for his signature.
