COLUMBUS, Ohio - A federal jury has convicted Davonta T. Flood, 30, of Columbus, of illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Flood is a repeat offender at both the federal and state levels.
The verdict was announced yesterday afternoon following a trial that began on Oct. 5 before U.S. District Judge Algenon L. Marbley.
According to court documents and trial testimony, in June 2026, deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office searched a residence used by Flood and recovered a firearm.
The sheriff's office's Special Investigations Unit had received a tip regarding narcotics activity at the residence on Wheatland Avenue. Upon executing a search warrant at the residence, officials discovered the firearm in a bedroom used by Flood between the mattress and the platform of the bed.
Flood had been released from the Bureau of Prisons for another conviction just one month prior to law enforcement searching the Hilltop residence he used. He was on federal supervised release at the time of his most recent crime.
As a previously convicted felon, Flood is prohibited from possessing firearms. His prior felony convictions include illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and possessing with the intent to distribute fentanyl near a school. He also has state convictions for aggravated assault, weapon under disability, receiving stolen property and escape.
Flood was indicted by a federal grand jury in June.
Possessing a firearm as a previously convicted felon is a federal crime punishable by up to 15 years in prison. Sentencing of the defendant will be determined by the Court based on the advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.
