Rep. Regina Lewis-Ward Receives GA ReLeaf Grant to Support Community Tree Giveaway Event

ATLANTA - State Representative Regina Lewis-Ward (D-McDonough) recently was awarded a GA ReLeaf grant to support a Community Tree Giveaway Event across her district, House District 115. This initiative will provide free trees to residents with the goal of connecting neighborhoods and improving the environmental, economic and social health of disadvantaged homeowners and residents in Stockbridge and Stonecrest, Georgia.

"This event is about more than giving away trees-it's about unity and sustainability for our communities," said Rep. Lewis-Ward.

"We are thrilled to work with Representative Lewis-Ward," added Stockbridge Mayor Anthony S. Ford. "Increasing tree canopy is truly an environmental benefit for the health of the residents of Stockbridge, while providing protections from extreme heat. This initiative allows us to expand our reach and ensure more families in Stockbridge, GA can benefit from the many advantages trees provide-cleaner air, cooler streets and a stronger sense of community."

The Community Tree Giveaway Event, scheduled on Friday, February 20, 2026, for Georgia Arbor Day, will distribute approximately 100 trees-ranging from small to large buckets-to residents at no cost.

In addition to its environmental benefits, the project seeks to engage volunteers, students and local organizations, fostering civic engagement and environmental stewardship. Participants will also receive education on proper tree planting and care, ensuring the trees thrive for generations to come.

Representative Lewis-Ward emphasizes that the success of this project relies on the support of dedicated volunteers from the Stonecrest and Stockbridge communities who are willing to contribute their time and skills to help make the event a success.

The Community Tree Giveaway Event is made possible through the support of the Georgia Forestry Commission's GA ReLeaf program, along with local municipal partners and community volunteers. Residents interested in volunteering or learning more about the event are encouraged to register at arborday.eventbrite.com.

Representative Regina Lewis-Ward represents the citizens of 115, which includes portions of DeKalb and Henry counties. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2020 and currently serves on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Banks & Banking, Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications and Interstate Cooperation committees.
