Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy today announced that the Advance Albany County Alliance has retained Bohler Engineering and Creighton Manning Engineering to conduct the study in the Towns of Coeymans and Ravena. The County Executive and Albany County Legislator Zach Collins have directed AACA to commission a comprehensive truck traffic rerouting study focused on improving quality of life, safety, and infrastructure conditions.
The study will evaluate current truck traffic patterns, identify areas of congestion and safety concern, and recommend alternative routing strategies to reduce the impact of heavy truck traffic on local roads and neighborhoods. The effort comes in response to longstanding community concerns regarding increased freight movement, roadway wear and tear, and pedestrian safety.
"Truck traffic along Main Street has been a longstanding concern for residents and businesses in Coeymans. This process will take a serious look at the issue and evaluate practical options that can reduce impacts while supporting the economic activity that's important to our community. Most importantly, the voices of local residents and stakeholders will help guide the path forward," said County Executive McCoy.
"Heavy truck traffic has placed a significant burden on our local roads and neighborhoods in Coeymans and Ravena. This study will help identify responsible, actionable strategies to better manage freight movement while prioritizing the safety and well-being of our residents," added Albany County Legislator Zach Collins.
Key components of the study will include:
• Analysis of existing truck routes and traffic volumes and related impacts
• Identification of safety risks and infrastructure constraints
• Evaluation of potential alternative routes to minimize neighborhood impacts
• Neighborhood meeting to solicit community input from residents, businesses, and local officials
• Recommendations for short- and long-term traffic management strategies
Advance Albany County Alliance CEO Kevin O'Connor noted, "This study will provide the technical foundation needed to make informed decisions about truck traffic management in Coeymans and Ravena towards promoting local economic development. We are committed to working closely with local stakeholders throughout this process."
The County anticipates the study will be completed this year, with findings and recommendations shared publicly upon completion.
This initiative reflects Albany County's continued commitment to responsive governance, infrastructure planning, and supporting the needs of its communities.
