City of Columbia winter trout fishing program now open

(COLUMBIA, MO)- City of Columbia Parks and Recreation has opened the annual winter trout fishing program at Cosmo-Bethel Park, 4500 Bethel St., as of today, Nov. 3.

All trout must be released, unharmed through Jan. 31, 2026. Only artificial baits (no natural or scented baits) can be used during that time. Beginning Feb. 1, 2026, anglers can harvest trout under statewide regulations. A valid Missouri fishing permit and a trout permit are required.

Parks and Recreation partners with the Missouri Department of Conservation to stock Cosmo-Bethel lake with trout annually. Other lakes throughout City parks are stocked and maintained to help increase species diversity and provide local fishing opportunities year-round.

For more information, call Parks and Recreation at 573.874.7460 or the Missouri Department of Conservation at 573.815.7900.
