CITY OF INDIO TO UNVEIL NEW VETERANS MEMORIAL AT MILES AVENUE PARK

Ceremony to be held November 10, 2026, at Miles Avenue Park

INDIO, CA (November 4, 2026) - The City of Indio invites the community to attend the unveiling of its new Veterans Memorial on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 9 a.m. at Miles Avenue Park (82540 Miles Ave., Indio, CA 92201). The memorial serves as a lasting tribute to the courage, service, and sacrifice of the men and women who have served our nation, providing a dedicated space for residents and visitors to reflect, remember, and honor those who have defended our freedoms.

The memorial features seven stone monoliths representing the U.S. National Guard, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Space Force. Arranged from left to right in chronological order by their dates of establishment, each monolith features an angled section symbolizing both a military salute and the profound sense of loss associated with service and sacrifice. Together, the seven monoliths face an illuminated American flag, standing as a unified tribute to the dedication and commitment of those who have served.

Thoughtfully designed to encourage reflection and honor, the memorial incorporates concrete benches on either side, offering visitors a peaceful place to pause and express gratitude. The surrounding landscape and multiple pedestrian access points create a welcoming environment that balances visibility with a sense of calm and tranquility, allowing the memorial to serve as a meaningful gathering place for generations to come.

"Every veteran has a story of courage, sacrifice, and commitment to something greater than themselves," said Mayor Elaine Holmes. "This memorial is our community's way of saying thank you to the men and women who have answered the call to serve our nation. As we unveil this lasting tribute, we honor not only their service, but also the families who have stood beside them and the sacrifices they have made. May this memorial serve as a place of gratitude, reflection, and remembrance for generations to come."

The City of Indio welcomes veterans, active-duty service members, military families, residents, and neighboring communities to join in this special unveiling ceremony. The Veterans Memorial will stand as a permanent reminder of the sacrifices made in service to our country and the community's enduring gratitude to all who have worn the uniform.
