Trump, Vought cause shutdown, use it as pretext to enact their extreme agenda & inflict pain on the American people
President Trump yesterday: "A lot of good can come down from shutdowns. We can get rid of a lot of things that we didn't want."
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement on announcements made by White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Russ Vought vowing to cancel billions of dollars in funding provided by Congress to lower people's energy costs - including in New Mexico:
"President Trump and Russ Vought have made their shutdown agenda clear: to inflict as much pain as possible on the American people.
"They are canceling critical energy projects, killing jobs, and driving up bills for New Mexico families. These are blatant political attacks meant to punish Americans that President Trump sees as opponents - but this won't just hurt Democrats, it will hurt hardworking people of all political stripes.
"On day one of the Trump shutdown, this administration is already treating New Mexicans' livelihoods as pawns in a political game. I will continue fighting back against this administration's abuse of power and corruption."
