DC HOUSING AUTHORITY CYBERSECURITY INCIDENT UPDATE

DC Housing Authority Cybersecurity Incident Update

WASHINGTON [July 17, 2026] -On Friday, July 17, the investigation into the cybersecurity incident that recently impacted the District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA) confirmed that a limited subset of DCHA data, including some sensitive information, was compromised. No evidence has been found to indicate any sensitive information has been misused.

We are issuing this notice as part of our ongoing commitment to be transparent about the impact of the cybersecurity situation. DCHA will be offering credit monitoring services, which include identify theft assistance, to DCHA customers. More information regarding those services will be issued next week.

We encourage DCHA customers to remain vigilant in protecting their data by reviewing account statements and monitoring free credit reports for unauthorized activity, and by following best practices for keeping your information safe online. DCHA has shared Information on ways to protect your personal information at https://www.dchousing.org. Immediately after discovering the incident on June 28, DCHA shut down our network environment as a precaution; notified law enforcement and the District of Columbia's Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO); and the DCHA Information Technology (IT) team and cybersecurity experts initiated a forensic investigation to determine the full scope and impact of the incident. DCHA will share more information when the investigation is completed.

DCHA follows industry standards when it comes to cybersecurity and data protection, including the use of round-the-clock threat monitoring, multifactor authentication, endpoint protection, layered email security, account monitoring and vulnerability assessments.

Following this incident, DCHA has taken additional measures to strengthen our network security, and upgrade and enhance our cybersecurity policies, procedures and protocols in consultation with our cybersecurity team and OCTO. On Monday, July 20, normal operations will resume for all DCHA departments. We thank our customers for their patience during this time.
