Delivery of emergency freight to Jamaica following the passage of hurricane Melissa (3 November 2025)

In the face of the damage caused in Jamaica by Hurricane Melissa, a historic Category 5 hurricane, and at the Jamaican Government's request, France is making active efforts to help the people affected.

With the support of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs' Crisis and Support Centre and the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, an overseas support and assistance vessel from the French Armed Forces in the West Indies (FAA) today delivered 40 tonnes of humanitarian aid (half of it donated by the United Nations) to Kingston.

The freight delivered is composed of kits containing basic essentials for 500 families and two water-treatment units from the French Red Cross's Regional Intervention Platform for the Americas and the Caribbean (PIRAC). Two Red Cross humanitarian experts will be deployed to put them in place.

The FAA ship also transported emergency freight from the World Food Programme, the International Organization for Migration, UNICEF and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA).

France reaffirms its full solidarity with the States hit by Hurricane Melissa, which caused the deaths of at least 28 people in Jamaica.
