ICOMIA Attends 12th IMO Session On Ship Design & Construction

ICOMIA attended the 12th session of the sub -committee on ship design and construction at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) last week.

Monitoring & Engaging

The IMO is the global body that sets regulations for the global maritime industry.

Whilst most of the IMO focus stays on the commercial sectors of the maritime world, ICOMIA and our sister organisations SYBAss are privileged to hold membership status. We monitor and engage on behalf of the leisure marine industry to ensure the optimum policy framework applies to our sectors of the industry and its unique characteristics.

Lowering Environmental Impact

At this technical meeting, lasting a whole week, a wide range of topics are advanced by specialist technical working groups.

Subjects of particular interest include the use of Fiber Re-enforced Plastic (FRP) in ships, Underwater Radiated Noise (URN), Remote Inspection protocols to monitor the seaworthiness of boats and how best to exploit new technologies, such as fuel and propulsion technologies, to lower our environmental impact.

Our technical teams will provide full updates to our members once the reports are finalised.
