Rep. Ciscomani Votes to Ban Stock Trading by Members of Congress

Washington, D.C. - Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed the Stop Insider Trading Act (H.R. 7008), bipartisan legislation prohibiting Members of Congress from using privileged information gained through their official positions for personal financial gain.

For years, Americans have raised legitimate concerns about elected officials using the power and access of public office for personal benefit. Rep. Juan Ciscomani has been an instrumental voice behind the support efforts to ensure Members of Congress are held to the same standards as the people they serve.

Rep. Ciscomani reiterated his support for the legislation in a statement following yesterday's House passage.

"Members of Congress should not be getting rich because of their position in public office,"said Rep. Juan Ciscomani. "The American people expect their elected officials to serve their communities, not use their office for personal financial gain. Members of Congress have access to information that is not available to the public, and that information should never be used to benefit their own stock portfolios. Yesterday's passage is an important step toward holding Congress accountable and ensuring public service remains focused on delivering results for the American people."

House passage of the Stop Insider Trading Act also received local support.

Members of Congress often have access to sensitive, market-moving information and their roles in government regularly influence market outcomes.
