Global recognition for Brunel's AI and engineering excellence in ShanghaiRankings 2026

Brunel University of London has been recognised among the world's leading universities for Artificial Intelligence (AI), Engineering and Technology subjects in ShanghaiRankings Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2026.

The rankings highlight Brunel's strength across a range of disciplines, with Artificial Intelligence ranked 6th in the UK and among the world's top 100 universities, while Automation and Control is ranked 3rd nationally and among the top 75 worldwide.

The results reinforce the University's reputation for delivering research, innovation and career-focused learning in areas that are helping to shape the future of society, technology and the economy.

Among Brunel's strongest-performing academic subjects are:

• Automation and Control: 3rd in the UK and top 75 worldwide
• Artificial Intelligence: 6th in the UK and top 100 worldwide
• Metallurgical Engineering: 7th in the UK
• Electrical and Electronic Engineering: 10th in the UK
• Energy Science and Engineering: 12th in the UK
• Instruments Science and Technology: 14th in the UK
• Computer Science and Engineering: 15th in the UK
• Telecommunication Engineering: 17th in the UK
• Civil Engineering: 18th in the UK
• Mechanical Engineering: 18th in the UK
