University of the Cumberlands' online Master of Science in Healthcare Administration (MHA) has been ranked No. 9 in Kentucky for 2026 by HealthcareManagement.org, earning recognition for its affordability, flexibility, and focus on student success.
"This recognition highlights Cumberlands' commitment to preparing future healthcare leaders and the work their faculty and staff have put into providing a high-quality MHA education," said Mardig Mouchmouchian of HealthcareManagement.org.
Drawing from data sources including the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), the U.S. Department of Education, and individual program websites, HealthcareManagement.org evaluated programs using five criteria. Affordability received the greatest weight in the organization's 2026 rankings, with program cost identified as an important factor in the potential return on investment of earning an MHA.
University of the Cumberlands' online Master of Science in Healthcare Administration is a 31-credit-hour graduate program that costs $355 per credit hour and can typically be completed in approximately one to two years, depending on course load.
At $355 per credit hour, Cumberlands' MHA was the most affordable program included in HealthcareManagement.org's 2026 Kentucky ranking. According to the organization's tuition chart, the program costs up to 80 percent less than comparable programs offered by regional competitors.
Cumberlands also offers its One Price Promise, an affordability initiative designed to make the total cost of earning a degree more transparent. Under the model, tuition, textbooks, course materials, and essential fees are bundled into one rate, helping students understand the cost of their education without unexpected fees.
For current MHA student Nick Miller of London, Kentucky, the affordability of graduate education at Cumberlands has made advancing his education more manageable than he anticipated.
"The program has been more affordable and manageable than I initially expected from a graduate degree," Miller said. "Being able to complete the program online also helps because I do not have the additional expenses that can come with commuting or relocating for school. I feel like I am able to invest in my education and future without completely disrupting my current life."
Affordability was only part of what Miller was looking for in a graduate program. Already working full-time in healthcare, he wanted an education that could fit around his career while giving him knowledge and skills he could apply on the job.
Cumberlands' online MHA is designed to help students develop knowledge of healthcare theory and practice alongside skills in areas such as leadership, communication, collaboration, finance, ethics, and healthcare administration. Coursework emphasizes research-based strategy and real-world application.
For Miller, that connection between the classroom and his healthcare career has been particularly valuable.
"The academic quality has been strong, and I appreciate that many of my assignments allow me to connect what I am learning to situations I actually encounter in healthcare," Miller said. "Instead of simply memorizing information, I am often asked to think about how concepts involving finance, leadership, business, ethics, and healthcare administration apply in the real world."
The online format also allows working professionals like Miller to continue building their careers while pursuing graduate education. Students can complete coursework around their schedules rather than relocating or stepping away from the workforce to attend classes.
Demand for healthcare management professionals is projected to grow significantly in the coming years. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of medical and health services managers is projected to grow 23 percent from 2024 to 2034, much faster than the average for all occupations.
Healthcare administrators help plan, direct, and coordinate the business activities of healthcare organizations. Graduate education in healthcare administration can help professionals build knowledge across the healthcare and business disciplines needed to pursue leadership opportunities in an evolving industry.
Cumberlands' combination of online flexibility, career-focused coursework, and competitive tuition gives students an opportunity to prepare for those leadership roles while continuing to meet their existing professional and personal responsibilities.
