The City of Centennial is joining communities across the country in celebrating National Public Works Week, May 17-23. This year's theme, "Rooted in Service, Powered by Community" recognizes the essential role public works professionals play in building and maintaining infrastructure that helps communities thrive.
Centennial's Public Works team is deeply rooted in service. Their work drives innovation, strengthens infrastructure and helps create a community where residents can live, work and move safely and efficiently.
From maintaining roads and bridges to upgrading traffic signals and improving accessibility along key corridors, Centennial Public Works delivers projects and programs that prioritize safety, reliability and mobility. These efforts support the City's commitment to creating smarter, safer streets and a transportation network that meets the needs of a growing community.
Public Works is responsible for maintaining the systems that keep Centennial connected, including:
These investments support economic vitality, connect neighborhoods and contribute to Centennial's reputation as one of Colorado's best places to live and work.
Centennial Public Works is funded through the City's Street Fund, with annual operational costs of approximately $35 million. However, between now and 2035, annual expenditures are projected to exceed revenues. By 2028, the City may no longer have sufficient funding to maintain current service levels for roads, bridges, traffic signals and other essential infrastructure.
As rising costs and flattening revenues create budget challenges, important decisions lie ahead about future infrastructure investments. Community members are encouraged to learn more, take a poll and join the conversation at YourCityBudget.co.
National Public Works Week is also an opportunity to recognize the dedicated professionals and valued partners who help keep Centennial's infrastructure safe, reliable and resilient. From road repairs to drainage management and around-the-clock resident support, the City works alongside trusted partners like Jacobs Engineering and SEMSWA to deliver high-quality service every day.
This week, join Centennial in celebrating the people and partnerships that keep our city moving forward.
Organized by the American Public Works Association, National Public Works Week celebrates the essential services that often go unseen but never go unappreciated. Public works teams help shape vibrant, livable communities-and Centennial is proud to honor them this week and all year long.
