8th Street bridge to shift to two lanes each direction overnight Tuesday

Beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, traffic on 8th Street over Fountain Creek will shift to a new configuration, with two lanes open in each direction by 5 a.m. Wednesday, April 22.

Traffic will be shifted to the east side of the bridge to allow crews to complete work on the west side. The center lanes across the bridge will reopen, and the right southbound lane on the bridge will be closed.

Motorists can expect the following:

  • Two lanes of traffic in each direction over the bridge
  • Traffic shifted to the east side of the bridge
  • Closure of the right southbound lane on the bridge
  • Right turn from northbound 8th Street to the US Highway 24 frontage road remains open

Drivers may encounter occasional right lane closures in either direction near the bridge in the coming weeks as crews complete curb, sidewalk and aesthetic work.

South of the bridge, water main replacement work is underway on 8th Street between Abbot Lane and south of Motor City Drive. Lane closures are in place, including no left turns between 8th Street and Motor City Drive.

During left turn restrictions at Motor City Drive:

  • Southbound 8th Street traffic can turn left at Automotive Drive, then access Motor City Drive via Motor World Drive
  • Motor City Drive traffic can access southbound 8th Street via Automotive Drive

The center lane closure will extend further south in the coming weeks to accommodate installation of the new water main. Additional details will be shared as work progresses.

Access to local businesses remains open and clearly marked. Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution in work zones.
