QinetiQ's ETPS test pilot school has signed a training agreement with the Republic of Korea Air Force (RoKAF). Initially, four students from the Republic of Korea will be trained at ETPS, which is housed at MOD Boscombe Down.
Since it was established in 1943, ETPS - the UK's oldest test pilot school - has trained over 1,500 students from 32 different countries. It's alumni include British astronaut and former military officer Tim Peake, and Sophie Adenot of the French Air and Space Force, France's first female helicopter pilot and currently in space on the International Space Station.
Major Seo Young Yeop, RoKAF, said: "With its long-standing reputation for excellence, access to a diverse fleet of platforms and its proven track record of delivering mission-focused training, ETPS provides the ideal environment for our future test professionals to thrive.
"The opportunity to learn within such an internationally respected programme will equip our teams with the advanced skills and global perspective they need, to meet the demands of modern flight test operations."
Following a year of training in Korea, the two Korean flight test pilots and two flight test engineers will join ETPS for six months of advanced study which will include the opportunity to fly new aircraft and to learn alongside UK, NATO, and other international peers.
Cdr Andrew Johnston RN, Commanding Officer ETPS, said: "We are committed to delivering exceptional flight test training that brings together expertise, innovation, and international collaboration. We look forward to welcoming the initial test pilots and flight test engineers from the Republic of Korea Air Force."
