Gerard Thibault, Home Contractor, Sentenced to 10-30 Years in Prison for Taking Over $2.4 Million from New Hampshire Residents

Concord, NH - Attorney General John M. Formella announces that Gerard Thibault, age 54, of Stratham, New Hampshire, has been sentenced by the Rockingham County Superior Court to 10-30 years in the New Hampshire State Prison.

Mr. Thibault owned and operated "Thibault's Handyman & Renovation Service, LLC" and "TR-Roofing LLC." His renovation business was also known as "Thibault's Renovation Services." He previously pleaded guilty to 23 counts of Class A Felony Theft by Unauthorized Taking for stealing from victims in both Rockingham and Strafford County.

An investigation by the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Bureau revealed that Mr. Thibault accepted a total of over $2.4 million in advance installment payments from twenty-three victims without performing the work he promised to perform. He repeatedly gambled with such payments shortly after receiving them. In several instances, Mr. Thibault solicited payments while actively gambling.

On eleven of the theft charges, Mr. Thibault was sentenced to 7.5 to 15 years in the New Hampshire State Prison, stand committed, with 2.5 years suspended from the minimum term for 20 years after Mr. Thibault is released from prison. On the remaining twelve theft charges, Mr. Thibault was sentenced to 7.5 to 15 years in the New Hampshire State Prison, stand committed, with 2.5 years suspended from the minimum term for 20 years after Mr. Thibault is released from prison, to be served consecutively.

In addition to Mr. Thibault's prison term, he is ordered to repay each of his 23 victims in full, in the total amount of $1,532,961.54. He is prohibited from gambling until he pays this restitution amount in full. Mr. Thibault is also ordered not to accept any advance payment for any goods or services and not to contact any of his victims.

This case was investigated and prosecuted by the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Bureau at the New Hampshire Department of Justice. The case was investigated by Investigators Thomas Rees and Frederick Lulka and prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Warren Cormack and Senior Assistant Attorney General Brandon Garod.
