New York: Ibrahimović reaffirms Montenegro’s commitment to multilateralism, regional cooperation, and gender equality

On the second day of his visit to New York, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović participated in several high-level events and meetings ahead of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, reaffirming Montenegro's strong commitment to strengthening regional cooperation, multilateralism, and gender equality.

Together with world leaders, Ibrahimović attended the ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, underlining Montenegro's dedication to peace and to reinforcing the UN's role in addressing global challenges.

At the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative working breakfast, Ibrahimović emphasized that European integration remains essential for the long-term stability and prosperity of the region, stating that the European Union is not only a geopolitical necessity but also a shared framework for peace, development, and the democratic values we all uphold. He added that Montenegro remains firmly committed to completing accession negotiations by 2026 and joining the EU by 2028, stressing that regional cooperation and trust-building are the best tools for overcoming challenges and opening new opportunities for our citizens.

Speaking at the event marking the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, Ibrahimović highlighted that Montenegro stands alongside its global partners in promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls. Advancing women's rights, fighting violence and discrimination, and challenging deeply rooted stereotypes - this is the essence of good governance and the foundation of sustainable development, he added. Ibrahimović also reminded that Montenegro's national strategies are fully aligned with international standards and the Sustainable Development Goals. It is upon us - governments that hold the power - to create a fair and equal future for all women and girls. We owe this to our mothers and daughters, but above all, to our entire societies, he said.

Later in the day, Ibrahimović will participate in a high-level meeting on Palestine, where Montenegro will once again reaffirm its commitment to international efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution, in line with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
