SBE Council Statement on the EU’s Plenary Vote on CSDDD

By SBE Council at 14 November, 2025, 8:15 am

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, D.C. - The following statement regarding the plenary vote by the European Union on the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) on November 13, can be attributed to Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) President & CEO Karen Kerrigan:

"The EU's plenary vote failed to walk back its sweeping regulations. These far-reaching obligations fall hardest on smaller firms that lack the resources to absorb complex reporting and due-diligence requirements. Congress and the administration must maintain pressure on the EU regarding the extraterritorial provisions of the CSDDD. These must be removed so that small businesses and their owners can maintain their viability and operate freely without red tape from EU regulators. SBE Council will continue working with partners and policymakers to ensure that our concerns about U.S. competitiveness and small businesses are clearly understood and that the interests of our SMB sector remain central as the Directive moves toward implementation."
