NV Energy Files to Lower Electric Rates for Southern Nevada Customers

Aug 19, 2026 10:04 AM

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - NV Energy has filed a request with the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada that would decrease electric rates for Southern Nevada customers beginning Oct. 1, 2026. If approved, the filing would reduce annual revenues by approximately $100.2 million and lower bills for customers across all major rate classes.

For a typical residential customer, the change would mean a monthly bill decrease of about $5.01, or 3.63%.

Proposed changes include:

  • Residential Service (RS): 3.63% decrease (about $5.01 per month)
  • Residential Multi-Family (RM): 4.04% decrease (about $3.14 per month)
  • General Service (GS): 3.95% decrease (about $3.00 per month)
  • All customer classes combined: 4.10% decrease

"Keeping energy affordable while maintaining a safe and reliable electric system is one of our highest priorities," said Brandon Barkhuff, President and CEO of NV Energy. "As fuel and energy market costs change, these periodic adjustments help make sure customers benefit when those costs decline."

NV Energy generates much of the electricity it provides to customers using company-owned power plants. When additional electricity is needed to meet customer demand, the company purchases power from the regional energy market. The cost of fuel used to generate electricity and the cost of purchased power are passed directly to customers with no profit to NV Energy.

Because fuel and energy market prices can change throughout the year, NV Energy regularly reviews actual costs and compares them to the amount previously collected from customers. Adjustments are made quarterly through a regulatory process designed to keep customer rates aligned with the actual cost of fuel and purchased power.

The adjustment included in this filing reflects lower energy supply costs and helps ensure customers neither overpay nor underpay for fuel and purchased power over time.

NV Energy continues to focus on providing safe, reliable and affordable energy while investing in the electric infrastructure needed to serve Nevada's growing communities and economy.
