State Board of Canvassers Certify 2026 Primary Election Results

TOPEKA - Today, the State Board of Canvassers certified the results of the Kansas primary election held on August 4. The official results are now posted on VoteKansas.gov.

The board, comprised of the Secretary of State, Governor, and Attorney General, reviewed the results as submitted and certified by each of Kansas' 105 counties.

Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab said voter turnout was approximately 32%, with 650,383 voters casting ballots. This marks the third-highest primary election turnout in Kansas history, trailing only 2022, with 47.3% turnout, and 2020, with 34.2%.

"Today's certification reflects the hard work and dedication of election officials across Kansas," Schwab said. "I am grateful to the 105 counties and the thousands of election workers who administered this election and ensured the results were accurately reported."

Other facts about the election include:

  • 49,139 mail-in ballots returned out of the 64,070 ballots that were sent to Kansas voters.
  • 223,714 ballots were cast in advance. (34.4% of all votes cast)
  • A close-race audit was conducted in Kansas House District 42, Republican primary. The outcome of the race was unchanged by the results of the close-race audit.
  • A hand recount of the constitutional amendment was conducted in 56 precincts within Sedgwick County.

Schwab said county election professionals are already preparing for the November 3 general election. Voter registration is underway and will continue through October 13.
