On 21 May 2026, IFPMA published a statement on the follow-up to the political declaration of the high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, on the margins of the World Health Assembly.

IFPMA welcomes WHO's continued efforts to tackle one of the greatest health challenges of our lifetimes. We need to now focus on strong implementation of cost-effective interventions and the strengthening of primary healthcare delivery. In this context, IFPMA and member companies particularly focused on enhancing access to diagnostics and therapeutics for precision medicine in LMICs and improved implementation of integrated approaches to tackling cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic diseases.

We urge Member States to embrace innovation, mobilize investment, drive implementation, and ensure accountability. Our industry remains a committed stakeholder in tackling NCDs. With over 9,600 NCD medicines in the R&D pipeline, we should be optimistic about the benefits that scientific innovation will bring to millions of patients. We remain committed to continue working with others to build solutions and contribute towards stronger health systems to improve the lives of people living with NCDs.
