SGMC Health welcomes Sarah Durden as Director of Nursing for Acute Care. In this role, she will oversee nursing operations across 3 West, 4 South, and the Virtual Nursing Program.
Drawing on her experience in inpatient settings, Durden is committed to advancing team collaboration and supporting nursing staff. Her leadership across these units will help enhance collaboration, strengthen team performance, and advance the quality of care provided to patients.
With more than 16 years of nursing experience, Durden has built a strong foundation in both clinical care and leadership. She began her healthcare career in the emergency department as a unit clerk and Patient Care Technician, later earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and transitioning to a registered nurse role on a medical-surgical unit. She has since served in clinical supervisory roles in extended recovery and as a nurse manager, continuing to expand her expertise in inpatient leadership.
Durden is also a member of the Georgia Organization of Nurse Leaders (GONL), reflecting her ongoing commitment to professional development and nursing leadership.
"I am excited to join the SGMC Health family," Durden said. "I look forward to being a part of an organization that strives for clinical excellence for their community."
Outside of work, Durden has been married to her husband, Charlie, for 15 years and is the mother of three children: Lilly (11), Lawson (6), and Lyla (17 months).
SGMC Health prioritizes a supportive and forward-thinking environment where nurses can thrive, grow professionally, and deliver exceptional patient care. By investing in leadership, fostering mentorship, and encouraging collaboration, the organization helps nurses build meaningful, long-term careers while improving outcomes for the communities it serves. This commitment was nationally recognized in 2026, when SGMC Health earned designation as a Great Workplace for Nursing-an honor that reflects its dedication to empowering and valuing its nursing team each day.
