19 February 2026, New York -- Statement on behalf of the European Union delivered by H.E. Ambassador Hedda Samson, Delegation of the European Union to the UN, at the UN Security Council meeting on Sudan.
Madam President,
Thank you to the UK for convening this meeting and for this opportunity to address the Council on behalf of the EU High Representative Kaja Kallas on the war in Sudan.
Thank you to the briefers for their presentations.
The EU remains very concerned about the humanitarian situation in Sudan and responding to this humanitarian crisis, the largest in the world, remains a priority for us.
The EU underlines the importance of respecting the unity, the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Sudan. The war in Sudan poses a serious threat to stability and security across the wider region which is in our shared interest to preserve.
The EU welcomes the efforts of the Quad on Sudan and its efforts towards establishing a humanitarian truce, a broadly shared objective in this room.
But more work will be needed once that goal is reached in order to prepare for "the day after". As EU, we stand ready and are actively engaged on Sudan as well. Let me mention four of those efforts:
The EU attaches the highest relevance to coordination with all partners and stakeholders on resolving the crisis in Sudan. We stand ready to contribute to any effort gearing toward peace and we believe in the greater role that this Council can play, including preliminary discussions how a potential truce can be supported by UNSCR 2719.
I thank you, Madam President
