RALEIGH, N.C. - United Bank recently promoted Zach Carlton to president of its Triangle Market. In this role, Carlton will lead strategic efforts to drive commercial and retail production and ensure the market's profitability and sustained growth. Additionally, Carlton will play a pivotal leadership role in managing public relations in the Raleigh and Durham areas, while representing United Bank in the community through active participation in civic affairs and professional organizations.
"Zach has consistently demonstrated the kind of leadership and commitment to his team, customers, and communities that we value at United," said United Bank Regional President Jerry Ocheltree. "We are confident that the dedication and diligence that he brings to his work, as well as his willingness to take on new challenges, will continue to drive growth in the market and ensure United's future success."
The Triangle Market includes three United Bank offices across Wake and Durham Counties. As market president, Carlton will continue to work from the Bank's Raleigh office.
Carlton brings 14 years of banking experience to his new role, including six years with United, where he most recently served as senior vice president and commercial lender before becoming market president. He joined United through CresCom as part of the Bank's 2020 acquisition of its parent company, Carolina Financial Corporation. Prior to CresCom, he held various commercial banking roles at regional banks across the Triangle.
"My goal as market president is to establish deeper ties in the region, while also building on the relationships that we've cultivated over the past few years," said Carlton. "I want us to feel like a true community bank, staying involved in the organizations we are passionate about and getting in front of customers in the local community. Raleigh and Durham are both strong growth markets, so expanding our brand in the Triangle is an exciting opportunity for United."
Carlton earned a B.S. in business administration from High Point University and graduated from the North Carolina Bankers Association's School of Banking. He was also notably one of 30 employees selected for United's competitive four-year-long Leadership Development Program and was part of the inaugural class of the Bank's Community Development Lending Program - an in-depth community development educational program for commercial lending employees.
A Raleigh native and lifelong North Carolina resident, Carlton is very active in the local community. He currently serves as treasurer of the board for the Project Enlightenment Foundation, which supports early childhood development, and volunteers with the YMCA and Habitat for Humanity. He is also active with White Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Urban Land Institute, and the North Carolina Bankers Association. Zach lives in Raleigh with his wife, Barkley, and their two children.
