Hall ’28MFA Explores Creative Writing Alongside Career in Cybersecurity

Sabrina Hall '28MFA, from Swedesboro, N.J., earned a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity and information assurance, and now she's chasing another dream in Arcadia's MFA in Creative Writing program.

"As a first-generation college student, I am incredibly blessed to pursue graduate-level education," Hall said. "After years of writing on the side as I pursued my undergraduate education at Western Governors University and in my professional career, I finally decided to focus on what brings me true joy. This program is low residency, so I can achieve this educational dream and continue to progress in my career without having to compromise."

Hall's first encounter with the other members of her cohort over the summer was a positive one.

"I've already gained so much through the residency held in August," she said. "Sharing work with other writers, critiquing, and partaking in writing exercises has been incredible. I hope to complete a manuscript and fully immerse myself in the opportunities available at the university. I'm excited to join clubs and find ways to incorporate my writing into campus life."

Arcadia's attentive faculty and small class sizes caught Hall's attention, encouraging her to choose Arcadia for graduate study.

"From my very first inquiry about the program, the Creative Writing instructors were personable and willing to help me through the application process, and I've found they're just as delightful in person!" she said. "I also really appreciate my smaller class, as it allows me to get to know everyone as we work through this two-year program together."

In her free time, she paints skateboards, works on digital art prints, and animates videos while working a full-time job.

"I think most artists will agree that no matter where you are, the drive to create never shuts off," Hall said. "My family has supported me in every decision I've made to get here, and while I'm officially an Arcadia Knight, this achievement isn't mine alone. I'm excited for the road ahead because my Arcadia experience isn't solitary; it's something we get to share, and that makes it all the more worthwhile!"
