VIENNA, 14 September (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the United Nations (Vienna), Lansana Gberie, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) Monica Juma.
During his career, Mr. Gberie has served in various capacities, among them:
Ambassador to Switzerland and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva (2018-present); Senior Advisor, UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), (2016-2017); Coordinator and Finance Expert for the UN Security Council Panel of Experts with a focus on West Africa (2012-2016); Senior Researcher and Political Analyst, Security Council Report, New York (2011-2013); Senior Research Fellow and Advisor, Institute for Security Studies, Addis Ababa (2010-2012); Head of the Liberia Country Office and Senior Associate for the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) (2007-2010); Deputy Head and Senior Research Fellow at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Ghana (2004-2007); Coordinator of the West Africa Programme and Senior Researcher, Partnership Africa Canada's International Diamond Trade and Human Security Project(1999-2004).
Mr. Gberie holds a PhD in Social Sciences/Africa from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, a Master of Arts in international relations/military history from the Wilfried Laurier University in Canada, and a Bachelor of Arts from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone.
