CONVICTED FELON INDICTED FOR POSSESSION OF A FIREARM AND POSSESSION OF A STOLEN FIREARM

A federal grand jury returned a two-count indictment charging Wendell R. McCarroll, Jr., age 46, of Albany Louisiana, with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a stolen firearm. He appeared for his arraignment and pled not guilty to the pending charges. Following the hearing, the Court ordered McCarroll detained in federal custody pending further proceedings and set his next court appearance for November 12, 2026.

According to the Indictment, on December 9, 2025, McCarroll was found in possession of a Springfield Armory 1911 EMP .40 caliber pistol, which he knew to be stolen. He was also on active parole for a previous firearm conviction which would have prohibited him from possessing any firearm.

If convicted of count one, McCarroll faces a term of imprisonment of not more than 15 years and a fine up to $250,000. If convicted of count two, he faces a term of imprisonment of not more than 10 years and a fine up to $250,000. Any imposed term of imprisonment must include a term of supervised release of up to three years after imprisonment.

U.S. Attorney Kurt L. Wall praised the work of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office. Assistant United States Attorney Lyman E. Thornton III leads the prosecution.

NOTE: An indictment is an accusation by a grand jury. The defendant is presumed innocent until and unless adjudicated guilty at trial or through a guilty plea.
