Omicron Eta, Rock Valley College's Phi Theta Kappa chapter, earned multiple honors at the Illinois Regional Convention and Honors Institute held May 29-31 in Normal, Illinois.

The chapter was recognized as a Five-Star Chapter, the highest level of achievement in Phi Theta Kappa, reflecting excellence in leadership development, honors programming, and chapter engagement.
During the Regional Hallmark Awards Ceremony, Omicron Eta received a College Project Award for its efforts to promote community college excellence and community service. In addition, chapter officer Allie Carlson was awarded a Hall of Honor medal in recognition of her outstanding leadership.
"The opportunity to engage with students from other chapters enabled our students to learn about different approaches to projects and varying perspectives on the Honors Study Topic," said Chapter Advisor Tim Spielman. "The convention, overall, better equips our students to be leaders at RVC.
In addition to the awards ceremony, chapter members participated in leadership training and seminars focused on the Honors Study Topic throughout the three-day event.
RVC's student attendees, Allie Carlson and Sahira Calderon-Estrada, enjoyed the opportunity to engage with Phi Theta Kappa members from around the state, especially during the honors seminars, and they welcomed the chance to learn lessons they can apply during this upcoming academic year.
The 2025-2026 Chapter Officers were Allie Carlson, President; Gabby Williams, Vice President of Scholarship; and Aurora Flores, Recording Officer. Tim Spielman serves as the chapter advisor.
Founded in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa is the official honor society of two-year colleges, recognizing the academic achievement of students at associate degree-granting colleges and helping them to grow as scholars and leaders.
