Rosen Statement on Trump’s New Actions to Dismantle Department of Education

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement after the Trump Administration's recent announcement that they are taking significant steps to implement their aggressive plan to dismantle the Department of Education.

"Make no mistake: the Trump Administration's unconstitutional attempt to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education is a direct attack on students and teachers in Nevada," said Senator Rosen. "Our students are the future of our nation, and they deserve access to quality education no matter who they are or where they live. Unfortunately, Donald Trump continues to shamefully put billionaires and the ultra-wealthy first while taking away opportunities from Nevada's students and future. As long as I'm in the Senate, I'll continue fighting to make sure the federal government fulfills its responsibility to support public education, teachers, and students."

Senator Rosen has consistently fought to protect and strengthen public education. She's spoken out forcefully against President Trump's plan to dismantle the Department of Education several times, including joining an amicus brief to challenge it in court. In July, Senator Rosen successfully pushed the Trump Administration to release nearly $7 billion in K-12 education funding that had been abruptly frozen by the U.S. Department of Education, including nearly $60 million for Nevada schools. In April, she also condemned the Trump Administration's proposal to eliminate Head Start funding, calling the cuts "outrageous and cruel" and pledging to defend early childhood education programs that help Nevada families thrive. Senator Rosen also helped introduce legislation to fully fund the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), ensuring students with disabilities receive the support and resources they are legally entitled to in the classroom.
