Lansing - The Michigan Department of Civil Rights (MDCR), in partnership with the Michigan Alliance Against Hate Crimes (MIAAHC), will host the 15th annual MI Response to Hate (MIR2H) Conference. This year's theme, "Standing Against Hate: A Community Response," will bring together community members, educators, law enforcement, and civil rights advocates for a day of learning, dialogue, and action. The MIR2H Conference is a vital platform for addressing hate crime and bias incidents in Michigan communities. It fosters collaboration, shares best practices, and empowers individuals and organizations to stand against intolerance and build inclusive, welcoming environments.

Highlights Include:
* Morning Plenary: "Standing Against Hate: Insight Through the Lens of Sport" featuring Dr. Ketra L. Armstrong, exploring how sports can serve as a platform for social change and unity.
* Lunch Plenary: "A Community Response Displayed" - a case study on rapid community mobilization following hate-driven vandalism in Sioux Falls, SD.
* Interactive workshop topics include policing and prosecuting hate crime and corporate responsibility.
The Michigan Department of Civil Rights is charged with investigating and resolving discrimination complaints and works to prevent discrimination through educational programs that promote voluntary compliance with civil rights laws.
