Penn State Altoona women's soccer swept the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's weekly awards in the sport, as the conference office announced two Lions were the recipients of this week's accolades on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Goalkeeper Mya Torres, of Culpeper, VA, was selected as the AMCC Defensive Player of the Week, while Kira Trexler (pictured), of Martinsburg, was chosen as the AMCC Offensive Player of the Week.
NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. - Penn State Altoona women's soccer swept the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's weekly awards in the sport, as the conference office announced two Lions were the recipients of this week's accolades on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Goalkeeper Mya Torres, of Culpeper, VA, was selected as the AMCC Defensive Player of the Week, while Kira Trexler, of Martinsburg, was chosen as the AMCC Offensive Player of the Week.
Penn State Altoona started off their season with a 3-3 tie against Wilson and then won their home opener against Cedar Crest 3-0.
Torres helped the Lions stay in the game against Wilson, making 11 saves as the Lions would claw back for a draw. In the home opener, Torres would make five saves and keep a clean sheet, helping the Lions get the victory.
In her college debut, Trexler would provide the assist for the Lions' second goal of the game. She would also win the penalty that Taylor Frederick, of Mifflinburg, would convert for the Lions to tie 3-3. In the game against Cedar Crest, Trexler would be involved in all three goals, providing two assists and scoring a goal of her own.
Penn State Altoona women's soccer is 1-0-1 overall so far this season. The Lions' next game is a home game on Sept. 5, at 3 p.m. against Bethany.
