The New York Times to Host The Climate Forward Live Event on Sept. 23, 2026

The New York Times today announced the return of Climate Forward 2026. This flagship climate event provides a forum for the exchange of climate solutions and ideas, and holds newsmakers and industry leaders accountable in front of a live audience. The one-day event will be held at The Times Center in New York City on Wednesday, Sep. 23, featuring conversations with business leaders, U.S. policymakers, innovators, world leaders and others, alongside journalists from The New York Times.



This year's theme is "Power Hungry." The event will investigate the once-in-a-generation race to build new energy sources. As governments, technology companies and utilities race to generate more electricity, The Times will examine the developing contest that could determine who wins the future A.I. race and who powers the future, while also pointing to how it affects governments' push to secure power through climate and energy policy.



Interviewees include Sunrun C.E.O Mary Powell; Project Drawdown senior climate scientist Kate Marvel; The Metals Company co-founder, chairman and C.E.O Gerard Barron;Fervo Energy C.E.O and co-founder Tim Latimer.More names will be announced soon.



David Gelles, managing correspondent for the Climate Forward newsletter, will curate and host live conversations along with a team of Times journalists. The talks will be based on critical analysis and insights from their on-the-ground reporting. The event will also showcase The Times's visual journalism to bring the content to life in a way only The Times can do.

This is the fifth annual Climate Forward, following the success of previous events, which have included interviews with Anthony Albanese, Gavin Newsom, Christopher Wright, Jane Goodall, John Kerry, Muhammad Yunus,Al Roker, Greta Thunberg, Ajay Banga, Al Gore, Bill Gates, José Andrés, Mia Mottley of Barbados, William Ruto of Kenya and Michael R. Bloomberg. The Times has also hosted global climate events in recent years in London, Sharm el-Sheikh, San Francisco and Glasgow.



Audiences are invited to join Climate Forward for this year's insightful exchanges. The event will include a sustainable lunch hosted by changemakers responding to the climate crisis in new, creative ways.
