Odessa Man Sentenced to 13 Years for Possessing Firearm Used in KC Shooting (DOJ)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - An Odessa, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today to 13 years for possessing a firearm used in a shooting in Kansas City, Mo.

Gary D. Holcomb II, 38, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Greg Kays to 120 months on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm and 36 months for violating a previous term of supervised release. The sentences were ordered to be served consecutively for a total sentence of 13 years. On Jan. 29, 2026, Holcomb, pleaded guilty to one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm that he admitted he used in a shooting in Kansas City, Mo.

According to the plea agreement, Holcomb admitted during the early morning hours on Sept. 30, 2025, he and his co-defendant, were in an alley behind a residence in Kansas City, Mo. Holcomb admitted they both possessed semi-automatic AR style rifles with large capacity magazines and shot at another individual in the alleyway, before fleeing the area in an SUV. Holcomb further admitted he had multiple felony convictions, to include a prior federal felony conviction for possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jess Michaelsen. It was investigated by Kansas City, Mo. Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives
