For the Good of the Order
Harris Named Reach Higher! Award Recipient
The Reach Higher! Awards recognize City employees who exemplify excellence and demonstrate an exceptional commitment to service. Please join me in congratulating Justin Harris as the recipient of the Winter 2026 Reach Higher! Award. Justin is an equipment operator with the Public Works Department, but his impact is felt throughout the community. Justin was nominated for going above and beyond his typical job duties. A resident recently reached out with sewer issues in their home. Although he determined the issue was not within the City's infrastructure, Justin didn't stop there. Justin found the source of the issue to be a damaged service line caused by a contractor that was working the area. Justin worked internally to ensure the resident received the proper notification and the company was out to fix the line the next day. This extra step shows how much Justin cares about our residents. Way to go, Justin!
Congratulations to Rhonda Kaczinski on her Retirement
After 30 years of dedicated service, Rhonda Kaczinski retired from the Marion Police Department. Rhonda joined the City in 1996 as a 911 communications operator and in 2018 was named communications center manager. Thank you for your many contributions over the years, Rhonda. We wish you all the best in retirement!

City Celebrates its 911 Communications Operators
In 1994, President William J. Clinton signed Presidential Proclamation 6667, declaring the second week of April as National Public Safety Telecommunications Week. This week is a time to celebrate and thank telecommunications employees who serve our communities, residents and first responders. The Public Safety Communications Center is housed within the Marion Police Department and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is staffed by nine communication operators and one supervisor. They are responsible for answering 911 calls and other requests for service. The safety of our first responders depends on the quality and accuracy of the information they obtain, and they are a vital part of the Marion public safety network. Thank you to our 911 Communications Center team!
10th Street Bridge Closure Extended
With all the rain we've received lately, the 10th Street bridge closure has been extended. Sanitary sewer work in the area is ongoing and the recent heavy rainfall and elevated creek levels have slowed progress. Detours are posted at 10th Street and Boyson Road, Central Avenue and Boyson Road and the 10th Street and Central Avenue/10th Avenue roundabout. This work is part of Sanitary Trunk Sewer Projects 4 & 5. We appreciate your patience as this project progresses.
