We are pleased to announce that Dave Nicholas has joined The New York Times as the new senior vice president of Global Security. In this role, Dave will lead our physical security and safety operations worldwide.
His responsibilities will include leading global newsroom security, working closely with Cybersecurity and other key partners to strengthen programs that protect journalists in the U.S. and around the world - from conflict zones to online and in-person threats. He will also oversee global corporate security, including 620 and our other offices and bureaus, event and travel security, security technologies and our security management systems.
Dave is a seasoned security leader with more than two decades of experience in physical security, executive protection, investigations and crisis management across government, corporate and nonprofit roles. Most recently, he led security at the Brookings Institution, where he built its first comprehensive security program, and he previously held a senior security role at Volkswagen Group of America.
Before that, he spent 17 years in the U.S. Department of State's Diplomatic Security Service, with long-term assignments at U.S. embassies and consulates in multiple countries and support missions across Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Earlier in his career, he served in the U.S. Army. He holds a bachelor's degree from Yale.
