"Frederick Douglass remains an exemplary model of American citizenship because of the way he was able to combine a clear-sighted understanding of both the flaws and the strengths of American society with a commitment to reform rooted in the enduring principles of constitutional self-government," said Dr. Jonathan Culp, director of the Institute of American Constitutional Thought and Leadership. "We're pleased to welcome Dr. Diana Schaub to reflect on his life and works in honor of Frederick Douglass Day, which is celebrated annually on Feb. 14."
Schaub specializes in American political thought and history with a particular interest in Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, among other topics.
