Durbin, Duckworth Announce $6.7 Million In Federal Funding For Springfield Mass Transit

CHICAGO - U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today announced $6,733,300 in federal funding awarded to the Sangamon Mass Transit District by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). This grant for Buses and Bus Facilities will go towards building bus fueling stations throughout Springfield.

"Robust public transit makes all of our lives easier," said Durbin. "These federal funds provide Springfield's transit systems with the resources they need to deploy the latest technology and maintain reliable, safe, and affordable services for Illinoisans."

"Investing in our infrastructure is about more than just improving our roads, bridges and railroads-it's about making it faster, more efficient and safer to get to work, school and move throughout our communities," Duckworth said. "I'm proud to see this investment to help build new bus fueling stations in Illinois and support overall bus operations. I will continue working alongside Senator Durbin and our local officials to ensure our communities receive the much-needed federal resources they deserve."

Durbin and Duckworth previously secured $17,807,630 in DOT funding for Sangamon Mass Transit District to replace its fleet of older buses with diesel-hybrid and compressed natural gas buses that reduce harmful emissions.
