Nick Bead, Penn State Altoona student-athlete in men's tennis
LATROBE, Pa. - Penn State Altoona student-athlete Nick Beard, of Manns Choice, was chosen as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Player of the Week in men's tennis, as the league office announced its weekly awards on March 9.
Beard, the Lions' No. 1 singles and doubles player, had a dominant week for Penn State Altoona as the Lions went 2-0 last week in a doubleheader against AMCC opponent Carlow.
In Penn State Altoona's 7-0 victory over Carlow, Beard posted two 6-0 wins in singles and a 6-0 win in doubles. In the second game of the doubleheader, a 6-1 victory over Carlow, Beard won both of his singles matches with two 6-0 decisions and came away from his doubles match with a 6-1 win.
Beard is 5-2 overall in singles so far this season. In doubles matches, he holds a 4-3 overall record.
This is Beard's first Player of the Week award this season and the third of his collegiate career.
Penn State Altoona men's tennis is 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the AMCC so far this season. The Lions will play their next game away at Waynesburg on March 17.
