Santa Monica, CA - This afternoon at approximately 3:20 p.m., Santa Monica Police Department officers responded to a report of a man believed to be armed near Santa Monica High School. Out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed on lockdown while officers investigated.
The individual was promptly located, and the weapon was determined to be a BB gun. The suspect is in custody. The lockdown has since been lifted, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
SMPD thanks the community members who reported this incident and reminds everyone: if you see something, say something. Community reports play an important role in keeping Santa Monica safe.
