WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, John Hickenlooper (D-CO), and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) introduced a bipartisan resolution recognizing October 2026 as National Dyslexia Awareness Month.
"As the father of a daughter with dyslexia, this is deeply personal to me," said Dr. Cassidy. "Children with dyslexia are bright; they just learn differently. This October we are raising awareness and continuing to promote early screening so children with dyslexia are identified and given the resources they need to reach their full potential."
"As someone with dyslexia, I know firsthand how important the right tools and resources can be," said Senator Hickenlooper. "This Dyslexia Awareness Month, let's renew our commitment to ensuring people with dyslexia have the support they need to thrive."
Background:
As Chairman, Cassidy is leading efforts to improve literacy and ensure the 1 in 5 children with dyslexia have the resources they need to reach their potential. His 21st Century Dyslexia Act which advanced out of committee in July would improve diagnoses for individuals with dyslexia and enhance access to evidence-based interventions and resources. Cassidy also introduced the bipartisan Reading Excellence and Achievement for Development (READ) Act, improving literacy instruction, requiring early literacy screening, and empowering states, local communities, and parents with more resources. Additionally, Cassidy led a roundtable discussion with parents to support students with dyslexia.
