2026 DLA Hall of Fame inductee: Wallace H. Robinson Jr.

Editor's Note: This is one of five stories featuring 2026 Defense Logistics Agency Hall of Fame inductees. An induction ceremony will be held 1 p.m. May 7 at the McNamara Headquarters Complex auditorium on Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The ceremony is open to all DLA employees; invitations are not needed.

A military leader known for his executive competence, focus on military readiness and driving efficiency during a period of significant personnel reductions is a 2026 DLA Hall of Fame inductee.

Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Wallace H. Robinson Jr. led the Defense Supply Agency, DLA's predecessor, as its fourth director from 1971 to 1975.

Taking command as the Vietnam War was winding down, Robinson faced a 8.3% workforce reduction in 1970 and another 5.4% reduction in 1971. He expanded the agency's global responsibilities by creating Defense Subsistence Regions in Europe and the Pacific. He also accepted worldwide responsibility for bulk petroleum and property disposal, establishing the Defense Property Disposal Services in Battle Creek, Michigan.

According to Robinson's nominator, DLA Chief of Staff Karyn Runstrom, he spurred his staff to develop the Defense Fuels Automated Management System with the same intensity he devoted to the Standard Automated Materiel Management System. The automation reduced back orders by half and increased stock availability from 78.9% to 89.9%. Robinson also represented the agency during the release of the Pentagon Papers, which had been taken from a RAND Corporation office under DSA security oversight.

Runstrom noted that DLA is a reliable and efficient partner today because of his leadership.

Robinson later served as commissioner of the Federal Supply Service and led the National Security Industrial Association. He died in 2013 at the age of 93.
