The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) has announced that the 63rd ABU General Assembly and Associated Meetings will be held in 2026 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, hosted by The Maharaja Media Network, part of The Capital Maharaja Group.
The event will bring together media leaders, industry experts, and innovators from across more than 60 countries, representing the Union's 220+ member organisations. As ABU's flagship annual gathering, the General Assembly serves as a key platform for discussing global media developments, technological progress, sustainability, and the future role of public-interest broadcasting.
Returning to Sri Lanka marks a notable milestone for the Union and underscores the country's longstanding contribution to ABU initiatives. The Maharaja Media Network, comprising MBC and MTV-two of the region's most established broadcasters-will lead hosting responsibilities. The Group is recognised for its commitment to journalism, innovation, and community service.
Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams Sri Lanka will serve as the Official Hospitality Partner for the 2026 ABU General Assembly, with the venue hosting key conference sessions and delegate engagements. The partnership positions the venue as a central hub for one of the region's significant MICE gatherings.
"We are delighted to bring the ABU General Assembly to Colombo in 2026," said Ahmed Nadeem, Secretary-General of the ABU. "Capital Maharaja Group has been a key partner in promoting excellence and innovation in broadcasting. We look forward to working together to deliver a productive and inspiring gathering for our members."
The programme will include high-level discussions, expert forums, workshops, and sessions focused on emerging technologies, AI developments, media literacy, peacebuilding, and the evolving broadcast landscape. Delegates will also have opportunities for networking, bilateral meetings, and cultural experiences highlighting Sri Lanka's heritage.
