I would like to congratulate the entire nation of Georgia and every Georgian on UNESCO's historic decision, under which "Georgian Wheat Culture: Traditions and Rituals" has been inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, stated the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili.

The event dedicated to UNESCO's historic decision was attended by the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi, representatives of the executive and legislative branches of government, as well as members of the clergy.

As the President noted, the inclusion of Georgian wheat culture and traditions on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity constitutes recognition of the vast legacy created by our ancestors and transformed, over time, into an integral component of Georgian culture.

"I would like to congratulate the entire nation of Georgia and every Georgian on UNESCO's historic decision, under which "Georgian Wheat Culture: Traditions and Rituals" has been inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
This constitutes yet another recognition of the vast legacy created by our ancestors who lived on this land, which, over time, they transformed into an integral part of their daily life, customs and Georgian culture, passing it down from generation to generation and preserving it to the present day.
Wheat and bread hold profound symbolic significance for us as Georgians. For our people, wheat represents a cultural and historical legacy. In Georgia, the customs and traditions associated with wheat cultivation and bread-making extend back centuries. It is particularly noteworthy that in this small country, endowed with an exceptionally rich culture, each region has its own distinctive type of bread. This diversity ultimately converges into a vast reservoir of shared knowledge and experience known as 'Georgian wheat culture,'" the President of Georgia stated.

According to him, UNESCO's decision underscores that, alongside numerous landmarks, traditions and a wealth of experience, Georgians have also bestowed upon the world unique wheat varieties and cultural traditions found nowhere else and distinctive to their heritage.

"I am proud that UNESCO's decision once again highlights a matter of fundamental importance: alongside numerous landmarks, traditions, and accumulated experience, we Georgians have also bestowed upon the world unique wheat varieties and cultural traditions found nowhere else and distinctive to our heritage. This fact, in turn, confirms that, alongside valuing and respecting our past, we possess significant prospects for the future development of wheat culture and the fields associated with it," stated Mikheil Kavelashvili.

The President expressed his gratitude to all those involved in the process.

"I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to every employee of all the agencies who were engaged in this vitally important undertaking of national significance," stated the President of Georgia.
