The Bowie State community came together on Sept. 17 to celebrate Constitution Day with a full day of dialogue, learning, and civic engagement hosted by the Office of Multicultural Programs and Civic Engagement. This year's BSU Constitution Day and Citizenship Dialogue explored how recent Supreme Court decisions are shaping the understanding of citizenship and due process, while honoring Hispanic Heritage Month with an intersectional approach.
Throughout the day, Latino and international students shared powerful reflections on the Constitution's relevance in 2025, highlighting how constitutional principles affect their lived experiences and shape civic life. The program began with an afternoon panel in the Student Center, followed by a Lunch & Learn in the Library introducing the BSU 2026 Election Jump Start Initiative and encouraging students to become Maryland poll workers. The evening concluded with a Dinner & Learn, where students continued the dialogue in an intimate, engaging setting.
Participants received pocket-sized copies of the U.S. Constitution as a reminder of their civic responsibilities, and many left inspired to get more involved in the democratic process including signing up to serve as poll workers in the upcoming election.
