Fundamental rights training at Brussels airport on the use of biometrics

FRA delivered training on fundamental rights and the use of biometrics at a Frontex organised event at Brussels Airport on vulnerabilities in automated border crossings. Participants included representatives from EU Member States and Schengen-associated countries.

The training involved practical testing of automated border gates and self-service systems, set up in preparation for the Entry/Exit System (EES) becoming fully operational in April 2026.

FRA underlined the need to operate the system in a fundamental-rights-compliant manner, emphasising human dignity, data protection and privacy, and the best interests of the child.

The training ran from 11 to 12 March.
