Forestry Takes Center Stage at the 2026 Wilson County – Tennessee State Fair

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Department of Agriculture is proud to announce its participation in the 2026 Wilson County - Tennessee State Fair, where forestry will take center stage as the featured agricultural focus for the year.

Considered by many to be Tennessee's largest outdoor classroom, the Wilson County - Tennessee State Fair has designated 2026 the "Year of Forestry," emphasizing the critical role forests play in Tennessee's economy, environment and everyday life. The fair runs Aug. 13-22 at the Wilson County Fairgrounds in Lebanon.

"Tennessee's forests are one of our greatest natural resources, supporting jobs, protecting water quality and enhancing the quality of life for all Tennesseans," Agriculture Commissioner Andy Holt said. "We are proud to highlight the forest industry at this year's state fair and to recognize the landowners, professionals and communities who sustain it."

Tennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry (TDF) exhibits will give fairgoers opportunities to learn about Tennessee's natural resources, forest conservation, stewardship and the many ways forests and forest products are part of everyday life. Interactive displays will offer educational experiences for visitors of all ages.

TDF will also highlight its fire management work, including wildfire prevention and response, as well as the tools and techniques used to protect Tennessee communities and forests.

Forestry is a cornerstone of Tennessee agriculture, with 14 million acres of forestland covering about 52% of the state. Tennessee's forests provide essential products, clean water, wildlife habitat and the natural beauty that defines the state.

The forest industry supports more than 91,000 jobs and generates $29.1 billion in economic output, making it one of the state's major economic drivers. TDF's presence at the fair will give visitors a closer look at how forestry supports communities, businesses and rural economies across Tennessee.

"Tennessee's forests touch every part of our lives, from the air we breathe to the products we depend on every day," State Forester Heather Slayton said. "The state fair is an opportunity to highlight the science, care and collaboration behind sustainably managing our forests for future generations."

In partnership with the Wilson County - Tennessee State Fair, TDA will also highlight the landowners, forestry professionals, communities and organizations whose collaboration sustains healthy forests, supports economic growth and preserves Tennessee's natural heritage.

As one of the largest annual events in the state, the Wilson County - Tennessee State Fair brings together hundreds of thousands of visitors for 10 days of agriculture, education and family-friendly entertainment.
